This book is part of a series called "The Seraphic Chronicles" and has a lot going for it. It's a little formulaic but you can count on the heroine coming out ahead of the game. In short, it's fun, the plot keeps boiling along, and the ideas behind the story are good. Of course, as has often been the case in space-opera types of science fiction, aliens are portrayed as largely human with some modifications.Where I ran into problems with this, and the other books in the series, is that it appears there has been no proof-reading at all. The grammar seems to follow its own rules. Commas show up everywhere but rarely where they should be located. Plural and possessive cases are usually reversed (example from the fourth book, Oblivion: ...they could easily see the starfighters heading their way and pick them off at a far greater distance than the weapons Ejjina's starfighter's could use." In this case there is no apostrophe needed in "starfighters's" because it is a PLURAL not POSSESSIVE case.
Too many times "to, too, and two" are used wrong - I've often seen "to" meant to be "too" to be used for "also." Quotes have been used incorrectly continuously through the series. I could go on but honestly gave up tracking the errors and spent my time trying to understand what Atkinson was actually trying to say. In places this was a challenge because many times words were used that had nothing to do with the sentence in which they were used. Also the word "but" was used in too many places, to link thoughts in the narrative, when ending the sentence and starting another would have made the meaning clearer.
So if you like a good story but are indifferent to spelling, grammar, and other things that make writing comprehensible, this book is for you. I've kept reading the series despite these issues because it was good storytelling.

Captivating story..Attention need to grammatical and spelling errors.
Yes- Read the series.
I per-read this book to sensor what my daughter is reading. Sensor is a strong word, at least I want to know what things she is reading. I think it is something she will like, and I have suggested she read it. That alone speak volumes for this book. If you enjoyed The Hunger Games (Book 1), this is right up your allay. I enjoyed it when the main characters trek across the galaxy and kick butt. Its fun and entertaining. Give it a try, you wont be sorry. I'm giving it 4 stars because it seemed there were some mistakes, ie miss spellings and grammatical, nothing major and just a few, a little weird though. it maybe do to the conversion to digital. Not sure.
