Grizzly Heat M/M Bear Shifter Romance edition by Hawke Oakley Romance eBooks Reviews
This is the first book I have read by Hawke Oakley and although only short, I enjoyed getting to know Victor and Liam in this M/M shifter romance. The downside of it is that it seems rushed and everything happens a bit fast and to be honest, even though Victor and Liam are beautifully written, this lets the book down. I simply wanted more. I really hope that the great relationship Hawke Oakley has written between Victor and Liam and the hurdles they face means that Hawke Oakley will again re-visit them and extend this short story into a much longer book and perhaps series.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reading Copy of this book.
I was drawn in from the start because I really liked this author's writing style, but more the story progressed, more questions occurred. As I was approaching the last third, the major one was Why am I reading this? One nonsense after another, plot holes, inconsistencies, were putting me off, so I had to make myself to even finish this novella. Too bad, because some parts were very well written, maybe even great. This author is very talented but in a desperate need for a few good beta and proofreaders. I was undecided between 2 and 3 stars, but at the end good parts prevailed, though I still think this work was rushed - ready for beta reading, not publishing.
I was given an ARC for an honest review
Grizzly Heat is a quick read to lose yourself in for a few hours. I was somewhat entertained by it and the characters are really enjoyable. However, the story needs work and a little more depth. There are some things that did not make sense, for example the place Liam was staying. It is described as some sort of barn but its next to an alley near an apartment building?? Then there is the group of bad guys who aren't afraid of a massive bear?? There are other things but I don't want to spoil the story for the next reader. This could have been a great story with a little more character and story development, I would have liked to know why Victor suppressed himself, did something happen as a child or adult etc. and what type of family/clan Liam came from.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy for an honest and unbiased review.
There were a few thing that bewildered me about this book. There was never any mention of shifters being able to know there mates by scent or some other way. That made the fact that everyone wanted Victor to take Liam home feel out of place. The second thing I noticed was the characters were not as developed as should have been. Victor is pining for ex and Liam is nosy house guest and then "BAM" he is in love with Victor. There was no build up. We didn't see him falling in love, just there. To top it off you had Nick telling all Victor's business to Liam, telling Victor that Liam loved him and then making him reveal his feelings for Victor when he wasn't sure what his feelings were.
With that being said, I was able to enjoyed this book, the mystery behind Liam's memory loss was pivitol in keeping me reading. Then the appearance of some dangerous characters towards the end of the book added a nice climax to the story. And that last shower scene was a great addition to the story. There are possibilities for future books within this world. As a short read this book kept me going till the end to figure out who was after Liam. This my genre and though it needs some work I am glad to have read it.
Liam lives in an abandoned building which is set on fire by an arsonist. He is rescued by Victor, firefighter by the local fire department.
As his house is destroyed Victor invites Liam to stay with him. Victor recognizes Liam as a bear shifter and althought Victor is one himself he doesn’t say anything to Liam. They fall in love quickly.
This story is a fun and quick read. It was well written. The characters were very likeable. It had me turning the pages, but at the end it didn’t feel quite right. The storyline was promising, but wasn’t fleshed out enough. I was left with several questions. I would have loved to read more about Victor’s history. His inner struggle is well described, but I missed the reason why. The interaction between the Alpha and Omega didn’t happen until the very end.
I liked the second character, Nick, as a welcome addition to the story.
Overal I enjoyed this book and would give it 4 stars based on the pleasant writing style.
I voluntarily read an ARC of this book for an honest review.
I loved the chemistry between the MCs and not just the Alpha/Omega chemistry but the way they interacted with each other during their day to day lives. With that being said the one thing I had to get passed in order to enjoy this book was the fact that everyone was so quick to except Victor taking Liam home right after saving him from the fire, it just seemed very unrealistic that someone would offer a random stranger a place to stay even if that stranger is a bear shifter. But what pushed it over the edge for me was that Nick (Victor's best friend) was not only okay with this but seemed to be the one pushing Victor and Liam into admitting their feelings for each other. However once I was able to move pass this I really enjoyed this book, the mystery behind Liam's memory loss and the appearance of more dangerous characters towards the end of the book is what kept me reading. And that last shower scene was so good. If you like mystery books where the MCs have an immediate attraction and are struggling to except not only their feelings for each other but also how they feel about themselves then this is the book for you.
the best book I have read in a while hope there's more to come . keep up the good work.
